  • Opening times

    We’re open Thursday to Sunday. Please head to the booking page for availability and specific times for each day. We need 2 hours to heat up so please book in advance where possible.

  • Can I book on the day?

    If you’re looking for availability on the day, please give us a call on (07875) 204410 (I’ll be working at the sauna so please feel free to try again if I don’t answer) or pop by. Online booking closes 12 hours before appointment start time so you may just be in luck even if you can’t book online.

  • What are the benefits of using a sauna?

    The benefits of sauna (especially in conjunction with cold water) are wide and varied for both your health and wellbeing. They are said to include reduced stress and anxiety, improved heart health, quicker recovery time after exercise, detoxification of toxins and improved sleep.

    Pleasure and relaxation are our favourite benefits, and, it's a very enjoyable activity with friends, family and strangers!

  • What should I expect?

    Arrive 5 minutes early so we can fill you in on everything you need to know about your sauna experience.

    We recommend arriving with your swimwear on, so you don’t loose valuable sauna time!

    Use the sauna for 10-15 minutes, followed by the cold experience - go into the sea, use the cold water buckets or just stand outside; to maximise the benefits of the sauna.

    Access to the sea is via the sandy beach so please bring sea shoes or flip flops if you prefer. Entering the sea is at your own risk. Please see our T&C’s before booking your sauna session.

    Please note - customers are not allowed to operate the stove (it is extremely hot!). You are allowed to ladle water onto the stones, using the equipment provided. You’ll be told how to do this.

  • What should I bring?

    • A swimsuit to wear in the sauna (if booking a private session, you're not required to wear a swimsuit in the sauna, however, you are required to 'cover up' once out of the sauna and during the cold element of the session).

    • A small towel, or tea towel to sit on while in the sauna.

    • A water bottle to stay hydrated while in the sauna.

    • Flip flops, or wetsuit shoes, for easier access to the sea.

    • Please do not bring your jewellery… it’ll get very hot, so it’s a good idea to leave it at home. Make sure your swimsuit doesn’t have any metal fastenings, as this can also burn the skin.

    • We have a small changing area, so you may want to come with your swimwear underneath your clothes. A Dryrobe or bathrobe are useful. Please note, we do not have showers on site.

  • Can I amend/reschedule/cancel my booking?

    Your booking can be amended on our website, a minimum of 48 hours before your appointment.

    If you’d like to cancel, we need a minimum of 48 hours (2 days) notice for a full refund.

    If you cancel later than 48 hours before the booking you will not automatically be entitled to a refund.

    Sometimes, in adverse weather conditions, we have to stop play. In these circumstances, we will let you know as soon as possible to reschedule your session, or issue you with a full refund.

  • Is it safe for me to use the sauna?

    We ask that you contact your GP if at all in doubt about safely using the sauna.

    If any of the below apply to you (please note, this is not a comprehensive list) we advise you to seek your GP’s advice;

    -If you're pregnant

    -If you've had a heart attack or stroke

    -If you're taking any medications

    -If you have cardiovascular conditions, or problems

    -You have epilepsy

    -You have asthma or breathing conditions

    -High or low blood pressure

    -If you have arterial disease

    -If you have joint or muscle injury

    By booking a session, you're confirming that you, and everyone in your group, has considered this advice and those detailed in our T&Cs.

  • What facilities are on site?

    Please bring a water bottle. It is important to stay hydrated before, during and after your sauna session. Fresh water will be available for refills.

    Cold water and buckets will be nearby if you don't want to go to the sea.

    We have a small changing room, which can accommodate two people at a time.

    There are no toilets or showers, however there are public toilets nearby.

    We do not have storage for valuables, jewellery cannot be worn in the sauna so please leave all jewellery at home.

  • How many people can attend?

    The sauna is suitable for 6 people.

    Private hourly sessions are charged at a flat rate regardless of the number of attendees.

    We ask that you do not bring more people than you have booked for, we have a small space with limited room.

    If you are a large group wanting to ‘rotate’ please contact us before booking.

  • How hot does the sauna get?

    The sauna is typically 60 to 80 degrees Celsius.

  • Can children use the sauna?

    Children under the age of 16 are not allowed to use Shoreline Sauna.

    Children 16 or older, have to be accompanied by an adult, with a ratio of 2:1, (two 16+ to one adult).

  • Can I come on a rainy day?

    Yes! We think wild windy, rainy days are some of the best sauna days. It’s the perfect rainy day activity in Lyme Regis. Remember, we also have the cold water bath for the odd occasion where the sea is too rough.

  • Sauna Whisks

    Sauna whisks can be made from many different twigs (collected in summer to remind you in winter of summer fragrances). Our selection varies, but typically we use birch, oak and herbs.

    The whisks are used for moving the hot air around the sauna and as a tool for massage. Different woods have different health benefits associated with the different species. To see whisk usage in action take a look at this video

  • Can I bring alcohol?

    We have a no alcohol policy and reserve the right to refuse entry (without a refund) if members of the group seem inebriated or intoxicated.

    Please do not drink alcohol or consume drugs before coming to your sauna session, you will not be offered a refund.

  • What is your COVID-19 policy?

    We will follow government guidelines. However, you're not allowed to wear a mask in the sauna.

  • What are sauna hats used for?

    The felt sauna hat is the traditional way of cooling the head, face and hair during sauna bathing.

    It can be used 'dry' to reflect the heat away from your face and head, or the sauna hat can be soaked in water and worn during the sauna. The water evaporates cooling your head and allowing cool water to refresh you whilst you sauna.

  • Essential Oils

    Further awaken your senses with the introduction of essential oils to your sauna. Select 3 oils from our selection available on the day . Add 2-3 drops of your chosen essential oil to a ladle of water (not the bucket) before pouring over the hot stones. Please refrain from using the oils towards the end of your session for the sake of our next guests. Please do not bring your own products to use in the sauna without permission.

    Selection of oils is subject to change. We are not aromatherapy practitioners, use of oils in the sauna is recreational and at your own risk.

  • Is it ok to burn wood?

    All of the logs for our wood-fired stove are locally sourced from sustainably managed woodlands. The stove is extremely efficient, operating to strict German requirements (BimSchV II). It burns much more effectively than an average household wood burner so emits far less pollutants. A wood-burning sauna is the most authentic sauna experience, and is a considerably better use of energy than it’s electric equivalent in these circumstances.   • What does ‘Leil’ mean?

    Noun. Estonian Origin. The steam generated by pouring water onto the hot rocks in the sauna.
